About Hotel Riffelhaus 1853
As the name suggests, the Riffelhaus opened in 1853, making it one of the oldest hotels in the Zermatt area.
Situated on the slopes, the hotel offers stunning views of the Matterhorn and is a fantastic base from which to enjoy a winter holiday given the fact that you can ski right back into the hotel from the piste.
The hotel has undergone renovation work to leave a contemporary alpine interior within the historic building, with a combination of different accommodation options that feature all of the modern amenities you would expect as well as no fewer than three different restautans.
Given the location of the hotel, a cosy bar area is available to grab a drink on an evening, whilst facilities for guests to make use of include a spa with whirlpool, sauna and steam room.
Please note, the Riffelhaus can only be accessed by mountain railway, which takes around 25 minutes from Zermatt.
Ski Accommodation
The Riffelhaus provides guests with a range of accommodation options, with a combination of double rooms and junior suites. Some of the double rooms come with views of the Matterhorn, with all having hairdryer, flat-screen TV, telephone, safe and Wi-Fi internet access. Suites come with additional space and can sleep up to three.
Meals
Guests can enjoy a buffet breakfast each morning in the traditional dining room, which offers stunning views across the surrounding mountains. Those booked on half-board trips are then able to sit down on an evening to dine from a four-course menu.

The Matterhorn really is the most iconic mountain in the Alps, and Zermatt is right underneath it so you are guaranteed the most sublime views, what with the Dom and Monte Rosa too. Skiing heaven here and one of the longest seasons with super-reliable snow so miss a trip here at your peril.
