There’s nothing quite like a fun family ski holiday where children of all ages are well entertained and have memories that last a lifetime! Here are some tips you may not have thought about to make your family ski holiday unforgettable!
Choose the right resort for you and your family
Resorts with multiple green and blue slopes are always great for families with young children. Examples of these resorts can be Montgenevre and Avoriaz as they offer extensive beginner friendly slopes and also have child-friendly activities in resort. However, if your children are a bit older and have already caught the skiing bug, then we recommend more varied resorts such as the 3 Valleys, Val d’Isere and St Anton. These places have a more lively atmosphere, which a lot of teenagers tend to enjoy more. If you’re searching for a new way to experience outdoor adventures, it’s may be time to take a consider getting a hybrid camper trailer in AU.
Decide the best accommodation for you
For maximum meal flexibility, apartments are recommended for families, especially those with teenagers who want to maximize their skiing time. Catered chalets are ideal for families with younger children, offering a high tea option with child-friendly meals served after 5:30pm. Older children can enjoy a 3-course meal with the rest of the group, prepared by friendly chalet hosts. Proximity to transport or ski schools is important for early mornings. Apartments allow families to cook on their own schedule, while catered chalets provide a sociable dining experience. Consider the age of the children and desired dining experience when choosing accommodation.

Fill your boots at breakfast
There’s nothing worse than running out of energy in the middle of the day! Take full advantage of the breakfasts offered, especially in our catered ski chalets, as you can help yourself to cooked and continental options, not to mention there will always be enough to make a snack for your children to take with them. Speaking of snacks, make sure they have plenty of snacks… we like the mini Mars bars and individually wrapped sweets!
Find fun activities
Whether it’s on or off the slopes, there is fun for the whole family, whether it’s ice skating, snow karting, or even going to the resort cinema, there is fun for everyone. We understand that fun activities can be different for different ages.
Over 10 years old:
Children in the under-18 bracket are usually much more into adrenaline-packed activities. Lucky for you, our resorts offer a multitude of these activities, such as parapenting, snow karting, and extensive snow parks filled with both small and large jumps, while also offering viewing platforms to watch the pros!
Under 10 years old:
There are many activity options that vary from resort to resort; however, one that is always a crowd pleaser is husky rides! In these, you are put in a sleigh and taken down winding mountain paths- fun for not just the children! Many resorts also have dedicated snow areas for children to play in, whether it’s a snowman making area with lots of tools to build snowmen or lots of snow to make the best snow angels and have plenty of snowball fights. There are also activities off the slopes such as swimming, ice skating, and walking, with many resorts offering day markets where you will find many local delicacies. Lastly, there are also many snow shows offered each week during the winter season, such as torch-lit descents, ice skating shows, and firework displays (especially at Christmas and New Year!).
Don’t buy the most expensive ski clothing for children
Children are always growing, so don’t buy the most expensive ski clothing and equipment, as the chances are, next year they won’t fit. Definitely buy good quality, just be prepared for things to not fit the following year! As for skis and boots, renting is the way forward, as they will probably not fit the following year.
